Could a Shadow Magic sorcerer control a Hound of Ill Omen 5e since they would need another mount?
A Shadow Magic sorcerer can not command a Hound of Ill Omen 5e. They can’t ride it amount unless they shrink themselves through Enlarge Reduce or are allowed to play as a Tiny monster like a fairy.
The Hound uses the 5e dire wolf‘s statistics, with the following modifications: The Hound is size Medium, maybe not Substantial, and it counts as horror, not a monster.
So while the Hound utilizes a dire wolf’s stats and you might utilize a dire wolf and some other Large creature as amount when you are small, this does not use for the Hound as it’s not two sizes bigger than the rider (and thus having to drag you along, being reduced to half speed) and because it’s not classified as the amount that dismisses that punishment for example horses.
Also, there is no hint in the 5e Shadow sorcerer’s description of summoning this monster that the Hound is favorable towards you. It may act aggressively once you attempt to ride it, as you are just another annoyance nearby while they are completely and utterly focused on their goal.

Since there is no reason for them to favor you as amount, I would say that’s a definite nope on you controlling them. And even if they are friendly, they’re too small for you to ride it without no having to lug you along.
The Hound of Ill Omen 5e isn’t recorded in any creature guide or anything because being a creature is only mentioned in a sorcerer class attribute in Xanathar’s Guide to Everything.
The class feature says that the creature’s base statistics are just like a Dire Wolf. Dire Wolf stats are available in the Monster Manual, and it has a base of 37 Strike Points. The distinctive element is that the dnd 5eHound of Ill Omen is summoned with an extra number of temporary hit points equal to half of the sorcerer level of this personality that summoned it. Many of Hitpoints to get a random rally that does not cost a charm slot rapping on a class with complete spell-casting. Though at higher levels, it does not scale well.
By default, a Hound has 37 HP, and there are very few circumstances that may change that.

As a bonus action, you may spend three sorcery points to summon a hound of ill omen to spot one creature you may see within 120 ft of you. The Hound applies the dire wolf’s statistics, with the following changes:
- The Hound is size Medium, not Large, and it counts as horror, not a beast.
- It appears with several temporary hit points equal to half of your sorcerer level.
- It can move through other monsters and objects as though they were tough terrain. The Hound takes 5 induce damage if it ends its turn inside an item.
- At the beginning of its turn, the Hound automatically understands its target’s location. In case the goal was concealed, it is no more hidden from the Hound.
The Hound of Ill Omen 5e dnd appears in an unoccupied space of your choice within 30 feet of the goal. Roll initiative to the Hound. In its turn, it can move only toward its target from the most direct path, and it may use its actions to attack its goal. The Hound can make chance attacks, but only against its target. Furthermore, while the Hound is within 5 feet of their goal, the target has a drawback on saving throws against any spell you cast. The Hound disappears if it’s reduced to 0 hit points or if its goal is reduced to 0 hit points or after 5 minutes.
