Most magic items are objects of exceptional craftsmanship. As a result of a mix of careful crafting and bewitching reinforcement, a magical item is at least as durable as a nonmagical thing of its kind. Most magical items, aside from potions and scrolls, have resistance to all damage. Artifacts are almost indestructible, requiring extraordinary measures to destroy.
It doesn’t seem right that magic armor generally would give damage immunity. There’s a specific armor that grants resistance to one damage type called 5e Armor of Resistance (DMG pg. 152). The armor itself includes resistance to damage. It does not confer this to the wearer.

Some Magic Armor does give resistance. However, they explicitly state that is their function. A Few Examples of such armor which does give the wearer resistance to damage are:
You’ve got resistance to nonmagical harm at the same time you wear this armor.
Armor of Resistance 5e (DMG, 152)
You’ve got resistance to one type of harm at the same time you wear this armor.
