The storyline as a television series is that twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed, Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.
The last of us series cast declared openly so far comprises a few video game veterans.
For the part of a father figure Joel, the producers assigned Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones, The Mandolorian), who has an interactive background from voicing Paolo in the 2016 sneaky action game Dishonored 2, while Ellie will be acted by Pascal’s Thrones co-star Bella Ramsey, who conveyed Freya in Doctor Who Infinity: The Dalek Invasion of Time. Then there’s The Flight Attendant’s Merle Dandridge, who will play Marlene as she did in the first game (and briefly the second).
Anna Torv (Fringe, Mindhunter) is the most current casting announced. Reports show Torv will play smuggler Tess, who looks after Joel to get Ellie to the Fireflies.
The cast also includes a US veteran in Bosch’s Jeffrey Pierce, who was the voice of Joel’s BFF Tommy in both games, but will, according to Reports, have a recurring role as “…a rebel in a quarantine zone,” while Chernobyl’s Con O’Neill, who voiced Titchy Gren in the game Dark Souls II, will be enlisted by Murray Bartlett (Iron Fist) as “…survivalists living alone in their isolated town.”
