DnD Polymorph 5e true Introduction

This true Polymorph 5e spell transforms a creature with at least one hit point, which you can see within range, into a new form.

The transformation lasts for the duration or before the goal drops to 0 Hit Points or expires. The new form can be any monster whose Challenge rating is equivalent to or less than the target (or the target’s degree, if it does not have a Challenge score ). The goal of game Statistics, including psychological Ability Scores, is substituted by this selected beast’s statistics. It keeps its Alignment and Character.

The target assumes the Hit Points of its form. If it reverts due to Dropping to 0 Hit Points, some surplus damage carries over to its traditional form. As long as the surplus damage doesn’t lower the animal’s normal shape to 0 Hit Points, it can not knock Unconscious.

The creature has a restriction in the “Actions” it can perform by the essence of its new form, and it can’t speak, throw Spells, or take some other actions that need hands or Speech. The goal’s gear melds into the new form. The monster can not activate, use, wield, or benefit from any of its Equipment.

The conversion lasts for the length or until the goal drops to 0 hit points or dies. The new form could be any monster whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target’s (or the target level, if it does not have a challenging score ). The target’s match figures, such as mental ability scores, are substituted by this chosen beast’s numbers. It keeps its alignment and personality.

The target

The target assumes the hit points of its new form. In case it reverts as a consequence of falling to 0 hit points, any surplus damage takes over to its standard form. Provided that the excess damage doesn’t reduce the animal’s normal form to 0 hit points, it’s not knocked unconscious.

The monster is limited in the activities it can perform by the essence of its new form, and it can’t speak, cast spells, or take any other action which requires Speech or hands.

The target’s Equipment melds into the new form. The creature can’t trigger, use, wield, or otherwise benefit from any of its gear.

What is the difference between Polymorph and true Polymorph 5e?

What can you polymorph into 5e?

From the spell text (second paragraph):

The new form can be any monster whose challenge rating is equal to or less than the target’s (or the target level, if it doesn’t have a challenge rating).

Can you polymorph yourself 5e?

You can use Polymorph on yourself, as you are a creature you can see within range. But you can’t turn yourself into a dragon since you can turn into Beasts using the spell.

What level is Polymorph?

Your scouting and battle forms can change as new options become available. Still, since your disabled form should generally be CR 0, it likely won’t change much. Keep in mind that the lowest degree you will be able to cast Polymorph is level 7, so you generally won’t look for combat forms below CR 7.

Is true Polymorph permanent in 5e?

Choose one creature with at least one hit point or a non-magical object that you may see within range. The transformation lasts for the duration, or until the target falls to 0 Hit Points or dies. If you concentrate on this spell for the full duration, the transformation becomes permanent in true polymorph 5e.

Can you polymorph into a Tarrasque?

Unless you are Gargantuan sized, you can not use Polymorph to turn into the tarrasque. Notice that both it and change self capped at one size category larger/smaller than you are (and size changes do not stack).

In 5e, can you true Polymorph yourself into a dragon?

Yes, you can “true Polymorph” in an early brass dragon 5e.

As you say, the spell and rules are clear. An ancient brass dragon is a creature. It is not a shape changer (and may not make a difference whether they were). It is of the appropriate CR for your degree.

Can you twin spell polymorph?

Provided that the spell only targets one monster, you can twin it. Twinning immersion charms work (if it only normally affects ONE creature). If you lose concentration, then the spell ends. It is affected.

Do Druids get Polymorph in 5e?

It must be a beast, and it must be CR lower than or equal to the character’s level. You need not have any knowledge of this creature, besides knowing it is at all. Druid’s Wild Shape states: Wild Shape only requires that the druid has seen the animal before, but Polymorph has no such restriction.

Is true Polymorph permanent in 5e?

Can you polymorph a corpse?

You can cast a True Polymorph on a dead thing. In 5e, True Polymorph explicitly operates on objects (PHB p. 283). Per”Is a dead monster’s body considered an”object”?”, corpses are items. So you can little-p polymorph a corpse. However, you cannot cast big-p Polymorph, the 4th level spell, on it.

Can you dispel true Polymorph in 5e?

You can dispel a permanent magical effect unless the spell explicitly clarifies it can’t be. True Polymorph fits into this category in 5e, which means it is easy to dispel.

Can you polymorph a zombie in 5e?

The new polymorphed form doesn’t matter. Well, it does not matter if the form given by true Polymorph is humanoid or not. The stunt is no longer under the effects of a spell. It is quite evident at the instant after the casting of the finger of death. But it doesn’t, so no form you can give the zombie would split its subservient state.

Can true Polymorph 5e change race?

So, changing a monster’s race with true Polymorph is possible. It’s just not simple. You can not turn your friend the Male Human Fighter 20 into a Female Human Fighter 20. However, (and this is why I picked drow), you could turn him into a Drow Priestess (CR 8)

Does 5e true Polymorph give legendary resistance?

True Polymorph Doesn’t allow PCs to use legendary actions. But it doesn’t mention legendary resistances.

Has anyone killed a Tarrasque?

The Tarrasque in 3.5 is essentially a puzzle monster: it is immune to a ton of stuff, catastrophic in melee, and dies by desire, but if you know these things, it is pretty easy to kill.

Can a Tarrasque kill a god?

The Terrasque could kill God unless the deity were underprepared and surprised. Deities have that much power for a reason. They could also fly above the Terrasque and pelt him with uber-powerful spells until a number of them stuck.

Can Truesight 5e see through true Polymorph?

True Seeing does not say anything about seeing through polymorphed creatures. Additionally, the larger form is not an illusion but a physical thing. I’d rule that you still get some visualizing’ or indication of a polymorphed creature’s true form. However, their body still blocks the line of sight as ordinary.

Can you polymorph a Polymorphed monster?

Polymorph can shape you only in beasts, and yes, you can polymorph yourself, provided that you can see yourself. All the conditions you have while polymorphed carry over in your normal form. Reverting will not get you any treatment.

 Does Polymorph change mental stats?

In D&D 5e, unlike 3.5, the recipient of a Polymorph spell doesn’t get to keep its mental attributes. In other words, if you get polymorphed into a beast with intelligence 2, that is now your current Int score. But, the target retains its personality. Polymorph changes you (or your target) into a monster shape. When Polymorphed, the goal now takes on the shape, stats, and abilities of this new beast shape while still retaining personality and loyalties.

There’s a wide choice of beasts with various abilities. Anyone can use Polymorph in very interesting ways for exploration and roleplay. But the enormous choice of beasts you can decide to Polymorph into does not necessarily mean all forms are created equal.

In this list, I rank true polymorph forms based on overall utility and battle in 5e.

Transforming yourself with Polymorph is not going to drop your concentration or skip the need for concentration. That means if you Polymorphed yourself and fail your concentration check, you instantly revert to your original form.

Rat 5e

I know. It is a rat with horrible damage and speed. But hear me out. They have Darkvision for 30 feet and are tiny so that they could get into many tight locations. The benefits of a rat form are not mechanical but roleplay-oriented. You can transform your foes into a rat, sure. But changing into one is great because they are inconspicuous.

You will find Rats in just about all normal environments. They flourish in jungles, forests, mountains, mountains, cities, dungeons, and even castles. If ordinary creatures can live there, there’ll be a rat also. Because they are so prevalent, most creatures who spot a rat will not think twice if they’re being spied on.

I would add Beholders as an exception to this because those items get paranoid about anything. Bear in mind that rats don’t normally understand language because of their low Intelligence score. So a rat scout will only have the ability to report what they saw, smelled, or heard.

Giant Badger 5e

Giant Badgers aren’t impressive on plenty of fronts. Sure they’ve Darkvision and Keen Smell. But they are not great at combat and are pretty slow. Like many giant-sized beasts, a giant badger has Multiattack and contains a 10-foot reach. But their horrible health pool and quite average AC won’t allow it to last long in combat. They do come in handy because they can burrow. Burrowing sounds trivial until you’ve been caved in like Aladdin and need a way to escape. Having the ability to burrow and smell for new air could mean life or death.

Giant Octopus 5e

A giant octopus 5e is your first aquatic type on this listing. The giant octopus can breathe underwater for those ocean/water campaigns. You likely won’t be using this form in combat. However, if forced to, a giant octopus can hit a creature with one of the tentacles. And if it strikes, they can automatically grapple and limit them.

Unfortunately, you can not grapple for every tentacle, but giving your allies advantage on rolls and simple critical hits make this kind excellent for support and setups. Suppose an encounter is not worth the time. In that case, a giant octopus can easily camouflage underwater to give an edge to Stealth or make a fast escape with Ink Cloud.

The Player’s Handbook doesn’t mention that an octopus in real life can squeeze into any opening so long as their beaks can match. If your DM permits this, a giant octopus could do the same to get into those tight areas.

Flying Snake 5e

Flying Snakes are a good combat form, even though this is a minimal Challenge Rating creature. The reason they’re good messengers is due to their ability to slither, swim, and fly. Flying Snakes have short-ranged Blindsight but have the advantage of having Flyby if they need to get in and out of combat quickly to secure their puny five hit points.

Bat 5e

Bats make a great scouting form. They have a decent fly rate and will not stick out like a sore thumb in several locations. What makes bats exceptional is they use Blindsight with their echolocation. That means that even magical darkness will not affect them. The only way to close down a bat scout would be to both use Darkness and Silence to deafen them.

Like the 5e rat, bats have a dreadful Intelligence score. So don’t expect a bat scout to tell the party, in detail, what was heard or seen. Another drawback is that echolocation can be noisy. Hence, unless a bat belongs to an area, best not to risk disturbing an area’s inhabitants.

Tyrannosaurus Rex 5e

Source: Monster Manual. Transforming into a Tyrannosaurs Rex 5e will pretty much obliterate any ordinary encounter for the next few levels. They deal a whole lot of harm with Multiattack that entails a bite and a smashing tail. The drawback is that Multiattack does not work on one target alone.

See also  Why Does the Paper Beat Rock?

A 5e Tyrannosaurus Rex’s sting not only does a fantastic amount of damage but grapples and modulates any creature it lands on that’s small or medium-sized. Its horrid 2 Intelligence balances out this powerhouse. And if DMs are willing to recognize dinosaurs in their setting. Still, if given a chance, transform into a Tyrannosaurus Rex at least once. I have never been disappointed turning into one.

Giant Elk 5e

Giant Elks move as fast as any horse with a speed of 6-8 mph and is Huge, which allows them to fit many people (or goods) on their back. With an Intelligence score of 7, they’re probably smarter than many Barbarians out there. If forced into combat, a giant elk can charge to an enemy using a Ram Attack that has a 10-foot variety.

That means the giant elk need not charge directly into their goal, but at least land one within 10 feet of them. This attack forces a monster to either pass a Strength check or knocks prone.

Giant Shark 5e

Source: Monster Manual. A giant shark is possibly the finest combat-centered aquatic type you could transform someone. It is a given that it can breathe underwater. But it has a good 126HP, great swim speed, and has a high Constitution score to keep concentration.

A 5e giant shark can smell the blood that throws it into Blood Frenzy. A creature gives the giant shark an advantage on all melee attacks if the monster does not have all of their hit points, too. I would rank this Polymorph form higher if it were not because it would only thrive in a campaign focused on water, which may not often occur.

Giant Owl 5e

Giant owls are the best option for scouting.

With one of the longest-ranged Darkvision in sport and an Intelligence score of 8, I consider these are the Dungeons and Dragons equivalent of a spy plane. Like a spy plane, their combat skills are pretty bad with minimal health and AC, making them helpful in combat.

High Intelligence scores are vital for trying to remember details. That makes a giant owl my pick for the top scouting Polymorph form. And being a massive creature, giant owls mount from top to let an ally scout together and help give the celebration even more intel.

Giant Ape 5e

The giant ape in 5e is my preferred Polymorph form for combat. It has an enormous health pool, even though it lacks great AC. Plus, it has Multi-attack with a 10-foot reach and is the only monster creature that has a ranged attack. Giant apes throwing rocks sound incredibly boring until you find out it has a range of 50 feet. Plus, at long range with the drawback, it has a range of 100 feet. Rocks need to be about to use this ability. But the damage is like one target, Fireball. Giant apes also have an adequate speed and can climb with a +9 bonus to Athletics to assist you (or your poor low-strength party members) scale a mountain. Very handy.

What is the difference between Polymorph and true Polymorph 5e?

They get a Wis to save, and a shape-changer can’t fail it. Like a druid’s wild shape, they take that animal’s HP, and when they lose it all, they return to their form, carrying over any excess damage. It lasts for an hour with concentration.

Can you throw Polymorph at a higher level?

Yes, you can cast any spell with a higher-level spell slot, irrespective of whether it increases anything by being cast in the higher slot. Some spells, such as magic missile 5e and cure wounds, have more powerful effects when cast at a higher level, as detailed in the spell’s description.

Are polymorph attacks magical?

A polymorphed beast has the stats of whatever it changes. Unless the creature it’s transformed into has some ability that makes their attacks magical, the creature’s attacks aren’t inherently magical. By way of instance, a Barbed Devil doesn’t have any features which produce its magical attacks.

Can Polymorph change creature type?

Polymorph 5e spells do not change your type. Therefore, we may say that it changes your creature type. Still, polymorph spells and effects usually list things that change while under that impact, like gaining new skills or losing a few. Still, creature type is not on the list under those changes.
