Introduction to Lightning Lure dnd spells

The lightning lure 5e is one of the most basic swordmage spells. It is used most commonly by shielding sword mages. When cast lightning lure lashes a monster of this swordmage’s choosing within fifteen feet using a whip-like bolt of painful Lightning, and the swordmage can use to pull the target towards them. However, the lightning lure doesn’t work if there is no obvious route between the swordmage and his goal. The spell, which is based, like virtually all swordmage spells, upon its caster’s intellect for power, raises deadliness as the swordmage gains more experience. As a very basic and easy to learn spell, the lightning lure can be cast at will.

What are the pros of Lightning Lure 5e?

For a cantrip, Lightning Lure doesn’t need to be ready. It does not use concentration and doesn’t spend any funds to cast. But a hidden bonus is that Lightning Lure does not require a Somatic component. As long as it is possible to talk, you can use this spell to pull them towards you and deliver a sudden jolt.

The charm goals Strength is fantastic. The majority of the enemies you would be targeting with this wouldn’t have a high Strength score. Instead, they generally want to focus on being out of range of combatants. The spell has a fair chance of success on the goals.

  • pulling the crossbow
  • Wielding Halfling away from the back of this Orc
  • Putting them in an excellent position

Electricity can also be a reasonably unresisted source of elemental damage in the bestiary. So the damage is likely to experience many goals without resisting (however, not nearly to the level of pressure damage).

Another underappreciated utilization of the spell is in conjunction with additional AoE effects. For instance, you not only lure your enemy in and electrocute them. But you might damage them further if this lure pulled them through the AoE zone of another party member’s charm or even a fire.

What are the cons of Lightning lure 5e?

As a caster, you will find builds that are useful in melee. Still, many Wizards and Sorcerers struggle to locate the wellbeing to back up the construct.

Because this is a forced motion, it cannot activate chance attacks by itself. That decreases the potency of the spell on weapons with reach. Other skills that are negated by pressured movement also apply.

On this issue of forced motion, the damage only comes through if the target ends its movement over 5 feet of you. Therefore you can stop it by having something powerful to control it. Such as manacles of top quality — and then you do not get to deal the electric damage to them if they failed the Strength save.

This spell’s assortment is somewhat pitiful, only offering 15 feet of range from level 1 to 20. As other skills start cropping up, which allow creatures to shoot massive, 100 ft potshots in the celebration, this cantrip won’t keep on the utility front with no substantial assistance.

Finally, the spell may only target monsters so that you can’t even use it like a pseudo-Mage Hand by pulling a thing to yourself.

When Should You Use 5e Lightning Lure?

The spell is situational. However, the situations where the charm is useful are amazingly vast! It may complement any area spells you have, forcing opponents to get pulled into traps. Such as Cloud of Daggers 5e or even a tripwire. Even it may compliment melee-ranged allies by pulling enemies into positions.

It is where they are more readily flanked or surrounded, preventing escape and increasing your allies’ damage potential. Or, if the roof reduces and an enemy is flying from reach of your Barbarian, then you can pull them down.

The Damage in Lightning Lure 5e

Another instance of the spell’s utility is because of a Prepared Action. This spell offers 15 ft of involuntary movement. You can use this to pull a member out of harm’s way as they open a trap. Additionally, you can give them a zap as a slap on the wrists. You may halt a fleeing enemy from getting much farther than 15 feet away. Suppose you have the feat Mage Slayer. You may reap the benefits by pulling a caster 15 feet closer as they try and cast. Admittedly, not many casters would want to cast while that close to another caster with a prepared action. However, a good GM may see the gears moving and give you a chance.

However, its outside of battle usefulness isn’t to be understated. Pulling someone 10 feet using a series of Lightning, made with no single somatic component, can be quite threatening and threatening in the right circumstance. You might also save lives by pulling people over a cliff edge with a quick lasso of Lightning. With a bit of a shock, which may or may not is deserved. Since it’s a spell with a rescue, you would not even have to attempt a Strength check to pull up someone at the heaviest of armors. This aspect does get much better if your GM home rules the ability to neglect a save willingly.

When is Lightning Lure 5e useful for wizards in D&D?

It is applicable for gish-type assembles (Eldritch Knight, Bladesinger, etc.) who want to acquire the enemy engaged in battle with them. But even to get a straight-up wizard, it could have its uses, akin to thorn whip or a wrong person’s grasping vine:

  • If they’re on a bridge, then fly out to both sides and pull them on the border.
  • And if they are grappling a friend, pull them off, and the grapple breaks.
  • If there is a snare or other hazard, pull them on it.
  • Again if a friend gets stuck in the sea, pull them free.
